Update from the one and only Lizzy Burg!

Hello everyone! I apologize for not posting sooner. I have been so focused on healing and upon reaching some new milestones before my one year anniversary on May 14th. Well that day has come and gone, and I am delighted to report that progress continues my walking stride still needs some work, but once I am better with it, my Physical therapists tell me that I will be able to start running again. Hooray! My next big goal is getting my reflexes trained so that I can be trained to begin driving again. I know that once I can drive I will be back to teaching because I will be able to get around more efficiently, and then I will be challenged to remember the lessons I learned: do not take on too much at once: it is better to do two things with excellence than five things only moderately well. And, Take care of yourself first - it is not selfish yo be good to yourself before taking care of others. It is necessary so that you can give more.I know this sounds simplistic, but I really didn't know this stuff before now. Better late than never, right? My deepest thank you to everyone who prayed for me or sent me kind thoughts as all of my doctors agree that my recovery and progress back to independence has been miraculous. I know that the support I received from all of my students ,friends, and family is the real reason I have been able to heal so quickly From the bottom of my heart, love and gratitude, yours, Elizabeth.

All is good in the universe

Sorry about not getting to you earlier... I wanted to stay away from the computer for the weekend. It looks like Lizzy was admitted for surgery around midnight on March 1st, and about 90 minutes later was carted off to the recovery wing of UCSF Medical center. Exciting news indeed. The procedure went off without a hitch and it looks like Elizabeth is now has the worst of it behind her.

Even better news. She was released from the hospital on Saturday for good behavior... I mean was recovering faster than expected. Now Elizabeth is home resting comfortably and doing well.

I would have more to say, but I am at work right now, but I hope to get back to you a little bit later.

Psych!

Hey everybody, it looks like the heroine of our story is going to have to wait a day or two to go under the knife (yuk!). It appears that UCSF Medical center was full, and and did not have any bed available for Lizzy, and postponed her surgery until there is room for her. But never fear dear viewers I will keep informed on the latest happenings as soon as they happen... man,I can't write good ;)

Bye for now.

Codename: Lizzy 4000

Wow, its been a longtime since I have been around these parts. Looks like I will need to do a little dusting to find the keyboard ;) It took some big news to catch me over here in New York, but it looks like our favorite bionic woman is getting an upgrade tomorrow (2/4/2007) at 4:30 pst, and getting her bone flap replaced. Whoohoo, we are in the final stretch here.

As we all know little Miss Burg has been operating without her part of her hood for the last 9 months, and has finally qualified to have her bone flap put back. Some little tid bits you may not know is that the doctors "lost" the bone flap a number of months ago. At first Lizzy, Ross, me, about everyone I know, were a bit upset to hear this news, but they said it was not a problem because they will make a high impact hypo-allergenic plastic. Ok, I suppose that would work... Then a couple of months ago the hospital called up and said that had found the boneflap. This of course sounds very promising, balance is restored in the universe. Of course a month ago whe Liz was going for a checkup, the doctors tell her that since it has been a while without the flap, and that they could not find it for a while, and because the staff infection she has contracted, maybe it was not such a good idea to put the original part back in. So, she went in, and got fitted for the new subdermal bling, and has been waiting expectantly every since.

So remember, February 28, at 4:30 pm pst. Lets all send our love Lizzy's way, and pray for speedy recovery.

P.S. Lizzy wants me to tell you guys she loves all of you, and thanks you for all of your support.

P.PS. Back at ya kiddo.

Progress Report from Elizabeth

Hello everyrybody! Thank you all for the wonderful outpouring of love in prayers, cards, calls, emails and daily well wihes- your kind efforts are coming to fruition!!!I just wanted to let you know that my recovery is still moving along at a clipping pace. I've spent several weeks virtually headache-free since coming home in September. Once home I had 2 weeks of spoilage from Ross and Diane, my stepmom who flew in from Minnesota and then I had about 6 weeks of in-home care with my fabulous visiting nurses and therapists: Lucinda, Jennifer, Rowena, Shona, and Larrissa and Martha - Thank You! I've kept working on those therapy programson my own, and Ross and I have added daily morning walks around the block and walks in the park with Coco Bean and Tyler pooch. Because we live in a hilly area, this endeavor each day has been both arduous and liberating for me. Since I am so eager to help my therapists in their work with me, and my stamina is stll my biggest challenge in life... my doctor just approved an order for me to join a cardiovascular recovery program in Berkeley. It's a monitored program with nurses and everything!! I can't wait to get going! I am also starting otpatient Therapy at Herrick Rehab in Berkeley. As a cherry on top, I've been spending Fridays with my sweet girlfriend Debby Stimmler and her father who is also recovering from stroke. We exercise together, relax and talk about life. It's a nice change of pace each week, plus it gives Ross sometme to run errands and visit friends in San Francisco.

Homecoming Queen

Hey everyone, long time no see. I just wanted to let you know that Lizzy is doing well. As a matter of fact she is well ahead of the curve the doctors had set for her. She is now able to walk with the help of a walker, and is able to get up and stand unaided. Along with this she is chomping at the bit to get ready for her big day today. Hmm, what day is that you say? Why she is being released from Alta Bates Recovery Hospital today. Whoohoo!

Our favorite homecoming queen has spent the last two months in rehab getting ready for the day she gets to go home and hang out with Maggie, Coco, and Tyler. While she is not at 100% yet, she is well on her way, and I think that going home will help inspire her to recover even faster. I am really excited about her taking this next step in recovery, and can't wait to have her up and bouncing around. Let's make sure everyone stops by her house, or at least gives her a call to let her know we are are there pulling for her.
